You just got your wedding photos and you’re over the MOON excited to go through your pictures! First, you probably download a few photos on your phone to quickly post on Instagram or Facebook… I mean did it really happen if you didn’t share it with the world? …and then life gets busy.
It’s been a couple of weeks, and you haven’t had time to go on your computer to save all of your photos.
What do you do once you received your wedding photos?
1st. Fight the urge to open your wedding photo gallery by yourself
Moments like this are so precious and moments like this are meant to be shared with your lifelong partner, am right? I recommend making this a fun activity between the two of you, better yet your closes family and friends over.
Go through your wedding photos on a big screen with a side of pizza or popcorn or wine and cheese? and your favourite beverage. If this doesn’t sound good, then I don’t know what does.
2nd. Download the WHOLE gallery on both full and online resolution.
There are two photo resolutions when you are about to download your gallery. I highly recommend downloading both full and online resolutions.
What is the difference?
– Full Resolutions are huge files which are used for printing purposes
– Online resolutions are smaller files that will easily upload to any social media. You don’t have to sit there for hours just waiting to upload a photo to share with the world.
I can’t speak for other photographers but my client’s gallery is open for one whole year from the date of when the gallery goes live. One year sounds like a long time, but it’s really not when you keep pushing things aside.
Procrastination is the devil ( alittle dramatic…I know..) to your sucess
I want to emphasize this, please download your whole gallery. If you haven’t done this. stop what you’re doing and go download it. Don’t procrastinate. Just do it -Nike
Everyone’s waiting to see the amazing photos from your wedding and since you’ve downloaded all your images its time to share them with your friends and family.
Most photographer now have online galleries, you can usually get a direct link from your photographer to share the full gallery with your love ones. Bonus point is that your guests can order directly from the gallery making it more convenient for both parties.
3rd. Backup your wedding photos in three or more location
Have you ever lost your phone? If you haven’t, well let me tell you it feels like crap!
Not just because you are still under a phone contract and have to pay the remaining balance. It’s the unsaved photos on our devices that will hunt you, all the memories captured vanished into thin air. dramatic? I think not.
Don’t let this unfortunate event happen to you before you take action, you always think “oh no this would never happen, I mean what are the chances…” and then it does….
Now you are wondering…But Mary doesn’t 3 backup system kind of overboard? here are a few scenarios for you.
Scenario #1: you backed it up on your computer, but suddenly you got a virus and now all your files are gone… Goodbye wedding photos….
Scenario #2: you placed it onto your computer and on a USB. 5 years later you lost your USB and have no idea where it is now, I mean it’s so tiny, however, you are confident its somewhere in your house… but not certain where exactly. Now you went to a coffee shop, your doing some work when suddenly someone accidentally knocks your drink all over your laptop… goodbye photos …
I know this sounds overboard but these are the real-life scenario that can happen to you! This is why I suggest backing up your important photos in 3 places minimum.

Remember a decade ago when we used cassettes and CDs as a form of storage. Yeah I know right, it feels like forever ago. This type of media had slowly died because of amazing technological improvement. What does the future hold, heck I can only guess? I don’t know about you, but it’s definitely weird to think about what kind of technology we will have 10-20 years from now.
It doesn’t matter how much technological advances we have, Albums and Prints stand the test of time.
It’s weird to think that you will forget about your wedding day, but as time goes by little moments will get lost in time. Having an album allows you to create a storybook full of love, family and friends. Not only do albums serve you, but it is a great family heirloom that will be passed down to your kids and grandkids.
I personally enjoy looking through my parent’s wedding album, I might not have been alive yet but It’s so cool getting to see the beginning of it all.
“ because the best thing about photography is not that it captures our moments, but that it makes them tangible” -Asia Dore
I provide professional graded prints and heirloom albums from a local (Canadian) print shop. If you are interested, slide into my email and let’s chat.
